Cold enough for you? Mother Nature seems to have it out for us this week, though every time I get down about it, I think of our neighbors to the north and realize how lucky we are not to be buried by several feet of snow. Please do all you can to stay warm and safe these bitterly cold days. Check on your neighbors and let someone in your church family know if you need anything. And keep this in mind: it's only 29 days, 5 hours, 20 minutes until spring.
Our Ash Wednesday worship service will be this evening at 5:30 pm at Zion. The service will include confession and imposition of ashes and will be short. The forecast is for snow later today; since I live in town, I'll be at the church for the service unless the roads are in bad shape. In that case, I'll send out an email. Next Wednesday's midweek Lenten program will be at Zion, beginning at 6:00 pm. We'll have a light meal and have Bible study, using David Lose's Making Sense of Scripture.
Thank you to Marty Holliday for pulling together our Shrove Tuesday pancake supper last evening. Thank you, too, to the cooks and those who provided the meal's ingredients - it was delicious! Congratulations to Marty on her job promotion to Executive Director of the New River/Mount Rogers Workforce Investment Board!
Please keep in prayer:*Phyllis Poff, who is in Roanoke Memorial Hospital, recovering from surgery.*Pat Burton, who is experiencing breathing problems and is staying at her daughter's house in Bedford.*Ginny Gardner, who is recovering from surgery.*Joanie Smith's sister, Amy, who is recovering from surgery in Minnesota.*Chick Fox, who is homebound with breathing issues.
Sometimes it is necessary to cancel or reschedule worship and other church activities due to inclement weather, especially at this time of the year. We do our best to contact everyone in our parish, primarily by email since so many members have it. I do worry, though, about people who don't have email or don't check it frequently. I've learned of a way to send out a phone message to everyone at the same time by creating a master phone list and using an online message service. If you would like to be on this call list, please give me the phone number you wish me to use; you can reply to this email with the number if you'd like. I'll set things up and we'll give it a try - hopefully not any time soon!
