Did you know? In anticipation of the 500-year celebration of the Protestant Reformation in 2017, a “Luther Reading Challenge” is being launched by the Institute for Ecumenical Research in Strasbourg, France. Writings of Martin Luther are being made available online. Persons who sign up for a free account (it’s easy to do) can engage in online discussion groups with people around the world. To check it out, go to wwwlutherreadingchallenge.org.
The Oak Grove Pavilion is off to a great start this season. Last week's contributions and canteen sales totaled over $600! Thank you to all who worked hard to make the concert a success. This week we welcome the Celtic band, Barrowburn, to the Oak Grove stage. Those who were heard them at Oak Grove last year will remember the unique blend of ballads and folk songs that make this band a true delight. As an added bonus, Barrowburn includes Virgil Sealy, a friendly face at Zion when he and Denise worship with us during visits from North Carolina to their Floyd County cabin. This week's concert begins at 7:00 pm.
Many thanks to Bill Gardner, BJ Bauermeister and Billy Motley for leading worship and delivering the sermon this past Sunday! I am grateful for the opportunity to be with my mother following her chemotherapy. She is doing really well this week!
Thank you to all who are helping with Vacation Bible School this coming week. Organizers, cooks and drivers will help the children from our parish and the Presbyterian Church of Floyd have a great experience as they learn about God's love.
“Which of these three, do you think, was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of the robbers?” He said, “The one who showed him mercy.” Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.” - Luke 10:36-37
