Billy and I are so appreciative of all the help we had on Thursday for Mom's memorial service. Since I was in a bit of a fog, I'm not sure exactly who did what, but still want to share a Thank You to everyone who helped set up for the dinner, for the flowers and tablecloths, food serving and clean up. Thank you, Vickie, for the beautiful music. It was a joy to be surrounded by our church family, from whom we have felt so much support over these last days and months. Mom so enjoyed coming here and coming to worship, meals and Oak Grove events. She developed many friendships over the last 6 years and always looked forward to her visits here. Thank you for honoring and celebrating her life as we worshiped the God who is with us every moment that we mourn. (I have attached a copy of Thursday's sermon.)
Billy and I won't be having our full-blown July 4th cookout tomorrow but we welcome all of you to bring a chair and beverage and watch the fireworks with us. If it doesn't rain, we'll be ready around 7:00 pm or after for you to come over. We'll have a fire in the fire pit to roast marshmallows and make S'mores.
Those who would like to pack food for the backpack program are invited to sign up for one or more of the next four weeks. Filling the bags will take place on Thursdays at 4:00 pm at Zion. We have had so much help with this project, there is a sign-up sheet to make sure we don't have too much help each Thursday (such a problem to have!) and all the Thursdays are covered. You can contact Bill or Ginny Gardner to sign up: email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org.
"Whenever and wherever human beings endure suffering and humiliation, take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented." - Elie Wiesel, 1928 - 2016.
