Earlier this week, a member shared with me a quote he had read recently in the Roanoke Times: "The power of love overcomes the love of power." I've been ruminating on that for a few days, then today saw a bumper sticker with a similar quote, "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace." Underneath the words was the name Jimi Hendrix. I did a little
research and found that William Gladstone (1809 - 1898) said, prior to Hendrix: "We look forward to the time when the Power of Love will replace the Love of Power. Then will our world know the blessings of peace." In addition, at around the same time that Jimi Hendrix shared his song lyrics, Sri Chinmoy Ghose said, "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then there will be true peace." It seems Hendrix is best-known for the quote. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace." God in Christ is the power of love working in us and in our world. We have a long way to go, but God will get us there. God is the only one who can get us there. Thank you, William Gladstone, Sri Chinmoy Ghose, Jimi Hendrix and Yahoo! Answers for reminding us of that truth.
