Our ELCA presiding bishop Elizabeth Eaton invites you and me to participate in a live webcast conversation titled "Confronting Racism" this evening at 9:00 pm. Bishop Eaton and William B. Horne II, a member of the ELCA Church Council, will talk together about the complexity and implications of racism and the ELCA's ongoing work on racial justice. You can read more about the 45-minute webcast here, where a link to the live webcast will be embedded. A live stream also will be available at www.Facebook.com/Lutherans. The hashtag is #ELCAConfrontRacism. You will also be able to access the webcast by going to www.elca.org at 9:00 pm and clicking the link on the home page. If you cannot tune in for the live broadcast, a recording will be made available at http://www.ELCA.org/webcast. I pray that this important and timely webcast may be the start of a conversation here in our parish and community. It's back to school time! Parents, please ask your children to bring their school backpacks or other school gear to church on Sunday for a blessing during the children's sermon. We pray that students, teachers and parents have a great beginning of the school year and that their classrooms be sanctuaries of learning, compassion and integrity.
Thank you to everyone who made last Sunday’s homecoming at Zion so wonderful. To Vickie and our choir members for providing beautiful music, to those who helped set up the kitchen and fellowship hall and who cleaned up afterward, to all who brought delicious food to the lunch - THANK YOU! It was a true community effort.
St. Mark’s homecoming will be on Sunday, August 23. We will have a joint worship service at 10:30 am followed by a potluck lunch. I hope to see you all there!
Oak Grove Pavilion presents “BAD TV Is Back” August 21, 22, 28 and 29 at 7:00 pm. The station manager has made off with the funds and those left are desperately trying to keep the station on the air. A beauty pageant, an opera, cows, brilliant songs and careful choreography combine for a most entertaining evening. You’ll never believe the talent that has been lurking…um, hidden…um, simmering within people you know and love. Check it out!
