Our parish prayer list is a wonderful tool for lifting up those need of prayer in our community or those close to us who may not even live here. Sometimes names remain on the list for an extended period because those individuals and families still need our prayers. Sometimes they stay on the list because they are thankful for answered prayers. Sometimes the names remain because no one (including the pastor) knows what is happening in the lives of the people represented. So, as a way to keep our prayer list current in this new year, will you please take a look at it and remove any names you know do not need to remain or add the names of anyone you wish to be remembered in the prayers of the parish?
I have attached a copy of the list. You may make changes by replying to this email, by emailing our secretary Rhonda at firstname.lastname@example.org or by making changes on a paper copy and giving them to me or to Rhonda. Thanks!
Martin Luther on prayer:
"...it may happen occasionally that I may get lost among so many ideas in one petition (of the Lord's Prayer) that I forego the other six. If such an abundance of good thoughts comes to us we ought to disregard the other petitions, make room for such thoughts, listen in silence, and under no circumstances obstruct them. The Holy Spirit himself preaches here, and one word of his sermon is far better than a thousand of our prayers."
