The 2016 election is over, but the weariness and pain are not, as I have heard from many of you. ELCA Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton speaks to us following the election in a recent video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nw2-f82fklc&feature=youtu.be
As Bishop Eaton has said many times:
"We are church,
we are Lutheran,
we are church together,
and we are church for the sake of the world."
As Christ's church, we are called to be Christ to our neighbor and to care for the most vulnerable among us. What an exceptional job Christ has given us! It is our honor and our duty to love others as he loves us.
I understand the particular kind of traumatic pain the election has stirred up in some. I am hear to listen if you would like to talk, confidentially.
Don't forget that St. Mark's Thanksgiving Dinner is this coming Sunday, November 20, at 4:00 pm at St. Mark in Willis. The dinner is free and all are welcome. It would be helpful if you could let us know if you're coming - respond to this email or call Billy at 540-745-5671. Feel free to invite others!
This Sunday, November 20, is Christ the King Sunday. It is also the last Sunday in the church year. Advent will begin on Sunday, November 27 and our Midweek meals with Holden Evening Prayer will start on Wednesday, November 30 and will continue for four Wednesdays. All Wednesday gatherings will be at Zion this year.
“There is a crack in everything.
That's how the light gets in.” Leonard Cohen
